WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Senator Jim Justice and Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) introduced the No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act. This bipartisan bill would expand the no-tax-on-overtime provision in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act (H.R.1) to include workers who were previously excluded from claiming this important tax deduction.

Here’s what they are saying (WTAS):

“Tens of thousands of TWU members are currently ineligible for the overtime earnings tax break, and the TWU will keep fighting this disparity until all of our members get what they deserve. Pro-worker lawmakers from both parties, and in both chambers, are stepping up to deliver thousands of dollars in savings every year for transport workers and their families,” said Transportation Workers Union International President John Samuelsen.

“We applaud Senator Justice and Senator Cantwell for introducing the bipartisan No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act. Under this expansion, pilots who work additional hours beyond their scheduled hours or monthly limits set by their airlines will benefit from increased tax deductions on their overtime earnings. We urge swift passage of this pro-worker legislation,” said Captain Jason Ambrosi, Air Line Pilots Association, Intl.

“Expanding No Taxes on Overtime to cover more Americans and more Teamsters — including those in the trucking, rail, and aviation industries — should be a no-brainer. The Teamsters commend Senators Justice and Cantwell for their leadership in advancing bipartisan, pro-worker legislation that would allow our members to keep more of their hard-earned wages and better care for their families. With strong support in both chambers, Teamsters across the country now call on Congress to pass this expansion into law,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien.

“For fire fighters, overtime isn’t a bonus. It’s the price of protecting communities when staffing is short and emergencies keep happening. Fire fighters who are forced to sacrifice time from their homes and loved ones deserve to at least keep more of their hard-earned money. The original No Tax on Overtime provision was a common-sense way to help out American workers who don’t get to go home when their shift ends. The IAFF applauds Senators Justice and Cantwell for introducing legislation that ensures all fire fighters can benefit from this provision and bring home more of their earnings to their families.” IAFF General President Edward A.
