WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Jim Justice issued a statement following the release of West Virginia’s tax revenue for Fiscal Year 2025 showing over a quarter-billion-dollar surplus:

“When I first walked through the door as Governor, West Virginia was in serious trouble. Our budget was upside down. Most folks thought West Virginia couldn’t be saved, but I never bought into that. I knew this state was a diamond in the rough – we just needed to dig in and do the work.

I made West Virginia a promise, and now, as we close out the 2025 fiscal year with over $254 million in surplus tax collections, nobody can deny it – we turned this state around. We didn’t just predict this would happen – we knew it would happen because we built it.

My Administration locked arms with the Legislature and got it done. I told them from the beginning – all we needed was a leader of the band, and I was ready to lead. We pulled the rope in the same direction and got big wins across the finish line. We delivered the largest tax cut in state history. We jump-started the economy. We brought jobs back, and we built momentum West Virginia hasn’t seen before.

Now, the job is not done. There’s always more to do – but let me tell you, the West Virginia I inherited, and the West Virginia I left behind are night and day different. We went from being the butt of the joke to the envy of the world.

At the beginning of my term, it was easy to see despair across West Virginia – in the end, we saw unbelievable pride and true belief from many West Virginians. My hope looking forward is that the current Administration continues on this path, because with fiscal responsibility comes prosperity,” said Senator Jim Justice.
