Recent closure of Cleveland-Cliffs in Weirton reverts a $50 Million Investment back to the State of West Virginia

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Jim Justice issued a statement following the recent news of the closure of Cleveland-Cliffs in Weirton and the return of $50 million to the state of West Virginia:

“Given the unfortunate recent news regarding the closure of Cleveland-Cliffs, it is imperative the current administration redeploy the previously allocated $50 million to maximum efficiency, and West Virginia’s airports are ripe for significant investment. Our airports serve as the main driver of our state’s commercial engine, and an investment as significant as this modernizes our infrastructure, supports aviation education and our world class employers, and represents a down payment on the continued industrial development of the state’s economy. West Virginia was built on opportunity, and that is exactly what we have right here before us: an opportunity to open the state up to more goodness through the swift, effective, and practical use of this previously allocated money. I say we get this done, and I’m sure the current administration understands the vital need to do so – a missed opportunity such as this is a loss for all and could cost us dearly down the line,” said Senator Jim Justice.
