Senator Justice Voted Best Governor of West Virginians Lifetime

The new poll shows voters overwhelmingly think Senator Justice is “the best Governor of their lifetime.”

LEWISBURG, WV – Today, Senator Jim Justice released a statement following a recent poll revealing respondents consider Senator Justice, following his two terms as Governor the best Governor in their lifetime, and over 60% of the state approves of his job as Senator:

“My time in public service has never been about me, it’s been about the people of West Virginia, and I carry their support with me every day while serving in the United States Senate. As Governor, we successfully put West Virginia on the map as a premier state to build a business and raise a family. As Senator, I’m bringing that same mentality to Washington – lowering taxes, unleashing energy, and supporting business development in West Virginia and across the country. As long as the Good Lord gives me breath, I will always fight on behalf of the Tobys and Ediths of West Virginia – because I answer to them, and because I love them beyond good sense. Thank you for your confidence in me West Virginia,” said Senator Jim Justice.

BACKGROUND:

  • Senator Justice served as Governor of West Virginia for two terms from 2017 to 2025 – leading the state through the COVID pandemic, revitalizing industry across all sectors, and modernizing the state’s infrastructure.
  • He left the Governor’s office with a 67% approval rating & was one of the most popular Governors in the United States upon his departure.

Survey Results:

  • 61% view him favorably in his current role as United States Senator – making Senator Justice the most popular elected official in the state by an overwhelming margin.
  • 32% of respondents named Senator Justice as the best West Virginia Governor of their lifetime, beating all other Governors listed in the poll.

The survey listed Justice a leader amongst the following:

  • Former Gov. and Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat, with 23 percent
  • Former Gov. and Senator Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat, with 15 percent
  • The current Republican governor, Patrick Morrisey, at 9 percent
  • Three-term Gov. Arch Moore, a Republican, at 5 percent
  • Gaston Caperton, a Democrat, at 4 percent
  • Cecil Underwood, a Republican who was the state’s youngest governor and then its oldest, at 4 percent
  • Earl Ray Tomblin, a Democrat and Justice’s predecessor, at 3 percent
  • Bob Wise, a Democrat, at 3 percent
  • 1 percent each for Wally Barron, Clarence Meadows, Hulett Smith and William Marland
  • 0 percent for Okey Patteson, a Democrat known for the initial construction of the West Virginia Turnpike.
