Senator Justice Celebrates New Coast Guard Facility in Kearneysville, West Virginia

CHARLESTON, WV – Today, Senator Jim Justice released a statement applauding the selection of Kearneysville, West Virginia, as the new location for the US Coast Guard Special Missions Command Facility.

“The Coast Guard’s decision to select West Virginia as the home of its new Special Missions Command Facility is a tremendous win for our state and our nation. I’ve said for years that West Virginia has so much to offer, and I’m glad people are catching on. This facility will play a critical role in defending our homeland and strengthening security across the region. There is nothing more important than supporting the brave men and women who serve our country, and West Virginia will welcome them with open arms,” said Senator Jim Justice.

BACKGROUND:

  • The Coast Guard selected the existing Coast Guard C5I Service Center facility in Kearneysville, WV, as the future site of the Coast Guard’s Special Missions Command (SMC).
  • The SMC will be commissioned on or around October 1, 2026.
    • This center will fully integrate the Service’s Deployable Special Forces under a single operational commander to provide oversight and advocacy, improve readiness, mission effectiveness, and interoperability to meet Service, Department, and joint military requirements.
  • The Special Missions will include the units below:
    • Maritime Security Response Teams 
    • Tactical Law Enforcement Teams 
    • Maritime Safety and Security Teams 
    • Port Security Units 
    • Regional Dive Lockers 
    • National Strike Force
