FAYETTE COUNTY, WV – U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) joined the groundbreaking celebration of an $11.8 million rehabilitation project in Fayette County.
According to a press release from the Office of Senator Justice, the National Park Service and community leaders joined Justice at the groundbreaking ceremony at New River Gorge National Park & Preserve on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The 3.4-mile Rend Trail and Bridges will be transformed by the rehabilitation project.
“I am so proud to be here today celebrating this massive $11.8 million investment right here for the Rend Trail and its historic bridges. These bridges go all the way back to 1904; they once carried coal trains and stand as a living, breathing piece of our West Virginia history. We aren’t just fixing up a trail—we are investing in the future of West Virginia and preserving our history. I’ve said it a thousand times: our parks are one of the greatest economic engines we have in West Virginia,” said U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV)
