West Virginia is home to one of the oldest populations in the country. Protecting the financial well-being of seniors has always been a priority for Senator Justice. During his time as Governor, he worked to lighten the tax burden on military retirees and Social Security recipients while also enhancing retirement benefits for teachers, school staff, and public servants.

As a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, he continues to advocate for programs and policies that help older Americans live with dignity, independence, and the respect they’ve earned. Already this year, the Committee has held hearings on topics that seniors in West Virginia deal with every day, including improving wellness, combating the opioid epidemic, addressing elder abuse and neglect, and strengthening drug supply chains.

In July 2025, Senator Justice introduced the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act to ensure seniors have the care and resources they need to prevent falls and recover safely. The legislation allows occupational and physical therapists to administer fall risk assessments during Medicare visits and strengthens reporting requirements so communities can better protect our elders.
